Les trois étapes du projet

Le projet « Franconorrois » s'articulent en trois étapes essentielles.

En premier lieu, il importe de définir la forme de norrois à recréer. Un amalgame est généralement fait entre le norrois et le vieil islandais du XIIème siècle. Toutefois, la variété de norrois qui fut parlée en Neustrie devrait théoriquement correspondre à une forme orientale du Xème siècle. L'étude de la toponymie et des emprunts scandinaves permet de définir la forme de la langue cible.

La deuxième étape est l'adaptation de la langue cible à la compétence linguistique des francophones. Les éléments du norrois absents de la structure du français standard (par exemple consonnes et voyelles) sont remplacés par des éléments présents dans cette dernière. Cette étape est donc marquée par une rephonologisation, une relexification et une resyntaxisation du norrois.

La troisième étape est l'autonomisation de la langue résultante (le "franconorrois"). L'apprentissage et l'utilisation de la langue permettent de définir une forme standard.

The three stages of the project

The "Franconorse" project falls into three essential steps.

First, it is important to define the form of Old Norse to recreate. An amalgam is usually done between Old Norse and Old Icelandic. However, the variety of Old Norse that was spoken in Neustria should theoritically correspond to an eastern form of the tenth century. The study of scandinavian place names and borrowings in France helps to define the shape of the target language.

Secondly, the target language has to be adapted to the linguistic competence of French speakers. The Old Norse elements absent from Standard French structure (for example consonants or vowels) are replaced by other elements included in the latter. This stage is marked by a rephonologisation, a relexification and a resyntactization of Old Norse.

The third step is the empowerment of the resulting language (actually named "Franconorse"). The learning and use of the language leads to a defiinition of the standard form.
